The late Margaret Thatcher famously said she slept for only four hours a night, so it’s not unusual to hear about our Prime Ministers bedroom habits.
But it came as a shock when we heard that the current Prime Minister, David Cameron, revealed he sleeps on an 18 year old mattress that was bought for him as a wedding gift by his mother-in-law!
18 years! That’s definitely past its best… and then some! We recommend people start thinking about replacing their mattresses after about seven years. (Click here for reasons why)
Not only is it probably not providing the right support anymore but imagine the amount of sweat and dead skin that is in there. Given that the average person sheds a pound (454g) of dead skin a year that equates to 36 pounds between David and Samantha over the course of 18 years. Yuk! And don’t get me started on fluid – but if you think we lose half a pint per person per night, then I don’t think you need me to tell you that it’s a lot over the Cameron’s mattress life span.
So a word of advice for David Cameron: while your mattress may look okay, it probably isn’t okay! And if you want to get the best possible night’s sleep in order to carry on looking and feeling at your best then it’s definitely time to think about replacing that mattress.
